Probably the most universal topic about stewardship is the parable of the Talents (Matthew 25) because it communicates two foundational Stewardship Principle’s in one convenient-bite size piece,- ownership and accountability. There are other verses that teach individual principles, such as, warning against being in Debt (Prov. 22:7), saving for the Future (Prov. 21:20), giving to help Others (2Corinthians 9:6-15). But there’s still something missing. The most important stewardship passage is found in Galatians Chapter 5 straight from the Apostle Paul. Paraphrased (Gal 5:16) “So I say, live by the HOLY SPIRIT, and you will not always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to do”. (Use one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit –Wisdom-). GOD’S Holy Spirit strengthens and empowers. GOD builds the Fruits of the HOLY Spirit into our LIFES. (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control. (Gal 5: 22-23). That’s why the Apostle Paul says “Live By The Holy Spirit” it is the Indispensable Stewardship verse, the one that makes following all the other stewardship passages possible. Stewardship is being in charge of your life, soul and gifts… People find all kind of excuses to stay away from church, but look at what you gain by being a part of St. Michael’s church. Make time to be at the Lord’s Table on Sunday. To date, we have received 8 pledges for a total of $35,530. Our proposed budget is around $160,000. Jerry Wilson, Stewardship Chair |
